Abstract
This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of junior high school teachers in integrating artificial intelligence in the classroom in Kapalong West District, Division of Davao del Norte. Specifically, the study examined teachers’ experiences in using artificial intelligence tools, the challenges they encountered, their coping strategies, and the educational insights they gained from these experiences. Five millennial Grade 10 public secondary school teachers and three grade level head from medium-sized schools participated in in-depth interviews and FGD for triangulation. Data were analyzed using NVivo software to identify recurring patterns and meanings across narratives. Findings revealed that teachers utilized various artificial intelligence applications for lesson planning, instructional material development, grammar support, interactive assessments, and student engagement. While artificial intelligence enhanced efficiency and creativity, challenges such as limited internet connectivity, unequal access to devices, overreliance, misinformation risks, and ethical concerns emerged. Teachers coped through clear usage guidelines, critical evaluation of outputs, supervised in-class activities, and collaboration with colleagues including Learning Action Cell sessions. Educational insights emphasized AI integration depends heavily on the teacher's role as a guide and evaluator to preserve learning authenticity and as a support tool rather than a replacement for teacher expertise. The study underscores the importance of institutional support, continuous professional development, and human-centered pedagogy in ensuring responsible and effective artificial intelligence integration in junior high school classrooms.
