Abstract

The paper tries to investigate the factors influencing migration in the riverbank eroded areas.  Logistic regression method has been used on the data collected. Primary data are collected from a household survey in Dhubri and Dhemaji districts of Assam during January-February, 2016 with the help of a semi-structured schedule. Altogether 437 household surveyed in the study districts (194 from Dhemaji district and 241 from Dhubri district). Using logistic regression approach, it is found that problems arise due to riverbank erosion such as loss of crop-land, education problem, transportation problem highly influence the migration decision of the riverbank erosion victims. It is also revealed that migration normally very high in eroded areas and riverbank erosion can be regarded as a major cause of population migration.
