Abstract
Persistent gender inequalities continue to limit the inclusive and equitable economic growth across both developed and developing economies. While social entrepreneurship is widely recognized as a driver of social value creation, little attention has been paid to the unique contributions of women-owned social enterprises. The objective of our study is to propose an integrative conceptual framework, based on the existing literature, to examine the role of women-owned social enterprises as drivers of inclusive and equitable economic growth by linking the intersections of women entrepreneurship, social enterprises, and equitable growth through economic and social pathways. Based on the existing literature, our study focused on integrating the fragmented insights on women entrepreneurship, social enterprises, and equitable growth into a structured pathway to study their relationship. The proposed conceptual framework explains how, with the help of 4 mediating variables, i.e., employment, financial inclusion (economic factors), social empowerment, and community development (social factors), the women-owned social enterprises help in inclusive and equitable economic growth of a nation. Linkage of every variable is individually supported with the help of the existing literature. Their integration is the core conceptual contribution of our study. By analyzing the interconnections, the framework aims to provide a foundation for understanding how such enterprises transform entrepreneurial activity into broader societal outcomes. By clearly identifying the mediating mechanisms, this framework not only gives a conceptual model but also provides a pathway for empirical investigation.
