Abstract
This study investigated the determinants of digital banking use among selected senior citizens in Cebu City, Philippines, and generated inputs for a Digital Financial Inclusion Short Course tailored to older adults. Anchored on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, the study employed a correlational research design involving 204 senior citizen respondents. Data were collected through a structured survey questionnaire that measured demographic characteristics, digital transaction usage, and behavioral determinants, including perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, acceptability, trust, and security. Descriptive and inferential statistical tools—specifically frequency distribution, percentage, weighted mean, Chi-square test of association, and regression analysis—were utilized to analyze the data at a 0.05 level of significance. Results indicated that although respondents generally expressed positive perceptions of digital banking, actual usage remained limited. A substantial proportion reported no internet access (49%), did not engage in online purchases (62.1%), and did not perform online payment transactions (71.1%). Further analysis revealed significant relationships between digital transaction usage and overall digital banking utilization. Moreover, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, trust, and security were found to be significant predictors of adoption. The findings underscore the need to enhance digital literacy, strengthen trust-building mechanisms, and develop simplified, user-friendly digital banking platforms for senior citizens. In response, the study proposes a Digital Financial Inclusion Short Course aimed at equipping older adults with the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence to safely and effectively utilize digital financial services. This initiative contributes to advancing inclusive financial participation among the aging population.
