While actions like the lockdown caused major harm to various societal groups, the situation of migrant workers from other states in India was devastating. The migrant labourers trapped in various regions of the country felt like second-class citizens while the affluent segments of society could afford the stringent restrictions imposed by the state. This study offers an ethical discussion of the pandemic-era welfare state and the human dignity of migratory workers. Data acquired from articles on the topic published in state-approved media were analysed using the theoretical framework of human dignity violation. The studys conclusion includes a critical evaluation of the marginalised peoples human dignity in a purported modern welfare state.
