    [abstract] => The article discusses the place of the Russian language in the general typological classifications of languages. The leading trend in the morphological structure of the Russian language is fusion. It is opposed to agglutination and is defined as a close connection of polysemantic affixes with a changeable root. Morphonological characteristics such as alternations of phonemes, alternations of stress, and affix variability are the indicative of fusion.
