    [abstract] => There is the palpable inadequacy of scientific data gathering in Nigeria despite the urgent needs for such in proper environmental assessment and management. This paper, however, investigated the status of remote sensing in Nigeria and its potentialities in helping to solve the problems of natural resources planning and management for sustainable development. Primary and secondary data are basically the sources of information. Be that as it may, it is discovered that remote sensing technique has been useful in data gathering for planning and monitoring of environmental resources. Meanwhile, strategies to improving its usage as scientific tool for data gathering for developmental projects in Nigeria are suggested.
