In recent years, high yielding mulberry and silkworm varieties have been developed by the research organizations along with other technological innovations in the form of revised brushing and pruning schedules to stabilize multiple mulberry cocoon crops in different parts of India. Still the gap exists between what is achieved and what is achievable at field level. One reason for the gap is that most of the innovations have been made in southern states where climatic conditions also support multiple cocoon crops. However, seasonal variations limit the availability of mulberry leaf throughout the year in Northern states and only spring crop has been stabilized in Northern states but efforts have been made to stabilize autumn crop with a limited success. Keeping all these things in mind the present study was carried at RSRS Sahaspur, Dehradun to stabilize autumn rearing in Doon valley by rescheduling brushing and pruning schedules during autumn rearing. The study was carried with five pruning and brushing treatments along with two controls. The data from silkworm rearing was collected on following parameters: weight of 10 cocoons (g), defective cocoon percentage, cocoon productivity, single cocoon weight, single shell weight, SR %. The pooled data for two years was analyzed by one way ANOVA and Tukey test was used to check which specific group means are different. The analyzed data revealed that pruning is one of the most important factors for improving cocoon productivity and overall quality of cocoon. Further from brushing dates, it was found that brushing in between last week of August and 10th September would be best for autumn rearing. But along with pruning and brushing, outside temperature and humidity will also plays an important role in stabilizing autumn crop which would be more in last week of August as compared to September. Hence the study concludes that brushing date of 10th September would be best as already in practice; however the pruning should take place on 15th July as against ongoing date of 2nd July.
