Purpose: The study intends to examine the sources of ULBs revenue. It highlights various revenue sources available to municipalities in India, including funds recommended by Five Year Plans and Finance Commissions Methodology: This study was primarily based on various Central Finance Commissions Reports and Five-Year Plan documents. Results: Fund transfers, including central transfers and state transfers, are the main sources of funds for ULBs in India. Funds allocated for ULBs has been increasing in the Five-Year Plans since the beginning. These transfers have seen an increasing trend over the years, reflecting the realization of the importance of strengthening municipal governance and infrastructure.
