Abstract
The evolution of interior design in the 21st century has been marked by the increasing preference for modular furniture, particularly in commercial environments such as offices, retail outlets, educational institutions, and hospitality spaces. Modular furniture reflects flexibility, efficiency, and adaptability—key qualities that match the modern work culture and rapidly changing spatial needs. This review paper, based on secondary data from design journals, industry reports, and research publications (2018–2024), explores the growing importance of modular furniture in Indian commercial interiors. The study highlights its role in optimizing space utilization, improving functionality, supporting sustainability, and enhancing employee productivity. The findings underline that modular furniture is not only a design trend but a long-term strategy toward efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible commercial spaces.
