Abstract
Background: Surgical site infections (SSIs) are a major cause of postoperative morbidity and prolonged hospital stay. Identification of risk factors is essential for prevention. Aim: To determine the incidence and risk factors associated with surgical site infections in a tertiary care hospital. Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted among postoperative patients undergoing clean and clean-contaminated surgeries. Clinical data, demographic profile, and risk factors were analyzed. Results: The incidence of SSI was found to be 1.9%. Significant risk factors included prolonged duration of surgery, diabetes, anemia, and extended hospital stay. Conclusion: SSI remains a significant healthcare burden. Identification of modifiable risk factors can help in reducing infection rates.
