Abstract
The sportswear industry has been characterized by tremendous growth due to growing health consciousness, technology innovation, and the rise of athleisure fashion. Nevertheless, environmental problems such as high carbon footprint, excessive water usage, and the problem of textile waste have been created by this growth. As a result, sustainable sportswear has come about in order to address these environmental problems. Sustainable sportswear involves the use of environmentally friendly materials, recycling methods, and a focus on circular economy principles. In this research paper, the process of the emergence of sustainable sportswear is analysed, together with its performance in terms of environmentally friendly materials and limitations in this industry. A qualitative approach to conducting research was employed for this study through an analysis of academic literature and industry studies. It has been established that sustainable sportswear can perform just as well as traditional sportswear but at a lower environmental cost. However, problems such as the complicatedness of the supply chain, the behaviour of consumers, and technical limitations impede full sustainability in sportswear.
