Abstract
Women empowerment has become a critical problem in contemporary Indian society since it is closely linked to equality, education, dignity and social justice. This study looks at how social and educational reformers support women empowerment in India. The study is mostly dependent on secondary sources, including books, research articles, journals, and historical documents. It is qualitative and descriptive in nature. It emphasizes the contributions made to women’s education, social equality, and the removal of detrimental societal customs by famous reformers like as Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Jyotirao Phule, Savitribai Phule, Swami Vivekananda, and Mahatma Gandhi. The study reveals that women empowerment is multifaceted, encompassing educational, social, political, and economic variables. It also shows how important education is for women’s development of self-confidence, awareness, independence, and ability to make decisions. The results show that women's literacy, social standing, and understanding of their rights and equality were all much enhanced by reform initiatives. But in many regions of India, issues like violence, poverty, gender discrimination, and unequal access to education still exist. The study comes to the conclusion that these reformers’ efforts and ideas are still very important for attaining inclusive and sustainable women empowerment in modern Indian society.
