Abstract
Effective teaching strategies are essential in improving learners’ technical skills in Food and Beverage Services. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of audio-based instruction in enhancing the mastery of selected competencies among Grade 12 Technical-Vocational-Livelihood learners at Kongkong Valley National High School during the School Year 2025–2026. The study highlights the importance of innovative instructional approaches in strengthening technical and vocational education. A quantitative experimental design was employed, involving thirty-six learners divided into a traditional group and an experimental group. A pretest–posttest control group design was used, and performance was measured through a technical skills performance checklist. The experimental group was exposed to audio-based instructional materials, while the traditional group received conventional teaching. Results showed that both groups initially demonstrated low levels of mastery in all Food and Beverage Services competencies before the intervention, indicating the need for instructional support. After the implementation, both groups exhibited significant improvement; however, the experimental group showed substantially higher gains in performance. Learners exposed to audio-based instruction achieved higher levels of mastery across key competencies, including promoting products, providing services to guests, delivering room service, and handling guest concerns. Statistical analysis further confirmed that there was no significant difference between the two groups on the pretest, indicating comparable starting points. In contrast, a significant difference was observed in the posttest results in favor of the experimental group. These findings suggest that audio-based instruction not only improves learners’ technical skills but also enhances their communication, confidence, and procedural accuracy. The study concludes that audio-based instruction is an effective supplementary teaching strategy and can be integrated into instructional practices to enhance learner performance.
