Abstract
The tribe of Arunachal Pradesh has a long tradition of the village council system, which reflects the traditional political process and political authority of different tribes. Each tribe has its own codes and customary laws to maintain the social order, which has evolved over centuries of adjudicating disputes and conflicts. The implementation of such customary laws and norms is made through their indigenously set up organization called the village council. The aim of this paper is to highlight the customary rules and functions of traditional political institutions of Akas of West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. The traditional political institution of the Akas has been undergoing some changes as the result of the introduction and intervention of the modern legal system and the latest democratic ideas.
